Academic and real-life task-based language needs of marine engineering students: interface between students' and subject teachers' perspectives

Abstract English for Specific Purposes (ESP) and Needs Analysis (NA) have been studied to a great extent, since couple of decades ago. The review the related studies also shows that needs analysis has much concern researchers interested in ESP field. However, students marine engineering not investigated terms task-based language needs. used quantitative survey. To collect data, researcher developed questionnaire consisting two components (academic & real-life) was employed. data were analyzed through descriptive inferential statistics (independent samples-t-tests). Both ME subject specialists believed academic real-life are important students. Results showed differences between mean scores statistically significant. It can be concluded maritime students, accomplish their study, need mastery both receptive productive skills. Findings theoretically pedagogically educators, administrators universities as well policymakers engineering.
